A former Police Constable who was dismissed from work will appear in court for house robbery

A 32-year-old former Police Constable was arrested alongside three of his accomplices, aged between 25 and 40. The four were arrested in the early hours of Thursday, 24 August 2023 at Standerton. During their arrest, police recovered suspected stolen properties which is connected to a robbery incident that took place in the morning of that day.

Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said a report by police indicates that members of the police in Standerton were busy patrolling in the area on 24 August 2023 when they spotted four males in possession of some bags.

“They then stopped and searched the men and it was during this time when they discovered some suspected stolen properties in their possession. One of the items that they found in their bags was a cell phone which was amongst the items reported stolen during a house robbery that was carried out a day before in the neighborhood”.

Mohlala added that the suspects will possibly be charged for the said house robbery incident.

The former SAPS member was attached to Visible Policing in Standerton but was dismissed from work in February 2022. The four are expected to appear at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 August 2023 facing the said charges.

Meanwhile, Mpumalanga Police Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has used the opportunity to discourage the public from buying suspected stolen properties.
