Angry community members attacked two males on Saturday, 19 August 2023 at around 19h00 at Hanani village in Vuwani in Limpopo.It is alleged that the Police were informed about the incident in which community members cornered two victims while they were at a local tavern. They dragged them to a soccer field and assaulted them with various objects.
Limpopo Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said this is after the two were allegedly accused of being responsible for cable theft in the area.
Ledwaba said on arrival with Emergency Personnel, the Police found the victims severely injured and were taken to a local hospital. “One victim, Ramathuthu Thivhilaeli aged 52 unfortunately died on arrival at the hospital while the second is still hospitalized”.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned this incident.”Community members are urged to refrain from taking the law into their own. This results in people being killed and that makes community perpetrators of crime and will be arrested
