Two metro police officers amongst suspects arrested for stolen stock worth R3 million

Two Metro Police Officers are amongst thirteen suspects arrested on Saturday at N12 road in Benoni area for truck hijacking, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of hijacked vehicles and jamming devices. It is reported that members operationalised intelligence information about a truck hijacking on the N12.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi of Gauteng Police said the members strategically placed themselves on the N12 and a convoy of vehicles with a truck meeting the description given was noticed.

“Operational takedown was executed and police arrested 13 suspects, seizing five sedan vehicles, two firearms, a jamming device including the hijacked truck with stock worth approximately R3 200 000.00 and Metro Police apparel”.

Nevhuluwi added that two of the vehicles were identified as positively stolen as per Olifantsfontein and Sebenza cases. Further investigations revealed that two of the suspects are Metro Police officers.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela applauded the team consisting of Provincial Serious and Violence Crimes, Tactical Response Team, Middleburg Flying Squad, Johannesburg K9, CAP Specialised Unit and Fidelity Specialised Services for a tremendous job.

All arrested suspects will appear before court soon and police investigations continue as suspects may be linked to other cases.
