Botswana National border jumper appearing in court for dealing in dagga

The Police in Nelspruit arrested a 35-year-old Botswana National and confiscated about eight kilograms of dagga worth R33 600 at the Oshoek border between the Kingdom of Eswatini Swaziland and South Africa on Friday afternoon, 14 July 2023 around 15h30.

The arrest came after Oshoek border policing members were patrolling the borderline, ensuring the safety of the country. The Police became suspicious of a man who was carrying a travelling bag after reportedly illegally entering the borders of the Republic.

Mpumalanga Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the man was searched and four rolls of dagga wrapped in brown masking tape were found inside the bag.

“When police investigated to establish his nationality, they discovered that he is a Botswana National and was travelling from the Kingdom of Eswatini into South Africa.

The suspect is expected to appear in Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 July 2023.
