The Mbombela High Court sentenced Rassie Hlabirwa Nkune (36) to two life sentences for the murder of a police officer and his sister.
The sentence follows the incident that happened on 15 May 2022 where the suspect arrived at his girlfriend’s, Sgt Marcia Mazibuko driving a blue BMW. The accused quarrelled with his girlfriend and took out the firearm.
Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said Mazibiko ran out of the house and got into the accused’s vehicle. “The accused followed her and shot at her multiple times through the car window. The accused then ran back into the house where he shot Pretty Mazibuko, who was the police officer’s sister”.
Mogale said the accused fled the scene. The two victims were taken to the clinic, where they were both pronounced dead.
“On 15 August 2022, Nkune was arrested in Springs for a separate murder of another woman which he committed on 2022-08-06 in Sundra, Mpumalanga. “The accused was taken to Nelspruit where he appeared in court several times until his case was postponed to 2023-05-16 through to 2023-05-18 where he pleaded guilty on the two counts of murder and was sentenced”.
