The Gqeberha-based South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) of Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) team of the Hawks arrested Dirk Wismeijer (57) on Thursday,19 May 2023 for charges of dealing in drugs. Wismeijer was arrested in Lemon 3 Guest Lodge in Kirkwood.
Eastern Cape Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said it is alleged that on 18 May 2022 around 14:00, Wismeijer attempted to smuggle 12.44 grams of “tik” (Metamphetamine) worth more than R4000 to France via Postnet at The Acres near Green Acres Shopping Centre in Gqeberha.
“Wismeijer was investigated by SOCI under an enquiry where after the warrant of his arrest was authorised hence his arrest”. He appeared in Gqeberha New Law Court the very same day and he was released on R5000 bail. His passport was also seized.
The matter is remanded to 2 June 2023 for the appointment of a legal representative.
