The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in the Eastern Cape Province has arrested the Station Commander for Murder and Assault. He blamed his victims to have allegedly broken into his residence to steal.
IPID National spokesperson Robbie Raburabu said a 42-year-old South African Police Services Captain stationed at Police Station outside the precinct he is currently held was arrested by IPID Investigators after he allegedly killed a 33-year-old male he accused to have broken into his house and stolen a Laptop and a cellphone.
“The incident Lingelitsha Township in Berlin Eastern Cape. The Captain allegedly assisted by several local Community Police Forum members rounded up some alleged suspects where a Captain allegedly assaulted them. After the Deceased succumbed to the injuries, his body was dumped on a public road”.
Rabauabu said after IPID was notified of the incident, Investigations led to the arrest of a 42-year-old Captain who was arrested the same day 29 April 2023 and detained at the Berlin police station. “He will appear in the Berlin magistrates court on charges of Murder. Investigations are continuing”.
