Three hundred and forty-nine (349) suspects were arrested in North West province between Thursday, 6 and Monday, 10 April 2023 in the ongoing integrated Safer Easter Holidays (Paseka) high-density operations.
The offences included assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), murder, house robbery, rape, possession and dealing in drugs, driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal possession of firearms.
North West Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said after multi-agency operations, a total of 6 547 vehicles were stopped and searched. Furthermore, 14 998 individuals were searched. Further successes were achieved as follows: A total of 6 411 road traffic fines were issued to motorists 139 fines were issued for liquor-related act contraventions.”
Meanwhile, the North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena reiterated that the police in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies and various stakeholders will continue to apply a zero-tolerance approach during the operations to ensure compliance and general safety.
