A widow of a late chief shot dead

The SAPS management in Mpumalanga under the leadership of the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of the widow of the late Chief Clyde Mnisi, Charlene Felicity Mathews (30).

She was reportedly gunned down in the early hours of Tuesday, 04 April 2023 around 01h10 am. A case of murder with two counts of attempted murder is being investigated by the police in Calcutta.

Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said according to the information, the Police at Calcutta were called to a shooting incident at the residential place of the late chief. “Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of the woman with multiple gunshot wounds on the head. Two other males identified as family members also sustained gunshot wounds after being shot and they were taken to hospital for medical treatment”.

Mohlala said the female victim was unfortunately certified dead by the paramedics who attended the scene. He added that the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

“Preliminary investigation by the police has since revealed that armed suspect(s) somehow got into the house and shot at the three victims and then fled the scene”.

Mohlala further said Mathews husband, Chief Clyde Mnisi (37) was fatally shot as well on the Airport Road near White River next to Kruger-Mpumalanga International (KMI) Airport in the evening of Sunday, 26 March 2023 around 23h00 am. His killers are still at large and have not yet been found.

Police urge anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the suspect(s) to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP.
