The New Law Regional Court in Gqeberha convicted and sentenced a foreign national, Witness Majoni (40) for kidnapping a 15-year-old boy in Platini area, Kirkwood. He was sentenced to 13 years of direct imprisonment.
Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo said Majoni kidnapped his former girlfriend’s son on 8 August 2022 at gunpoint and demanded R20 000 ransom. “The incident was reported to the Kirkwood police and the matter was transferred to the Gqeberha-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team. The child was later found in Addo”.
Nxumalo added that the investigation team arrested Majoni on 10 August 2022 in Thohoyandou, Limpopo province. “The court sentenced Majoni to five years for kidnapping, five years for extortion, two years for assault and three years for each of the two counts of pointing with a firearm. Sentences on assault and gun pointing will run concurrently”.
