A woman who was reported missing found dead

A suspect is behind bars after allegedly found in possession of the bank cards belonging to the reported missing woman. The suspect was subsequently identified, interviewed and arrested on Wednesday 22 March 2023 while at his residence in Tshikweta village.

Limpopo Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the woman went missing while she was at Thavhani Mall, Thohoyandou in the Vhembe District. “All efforts to locate her were unsuccessful, thus prompting the family to report her missing at Thohoyadou SAPS”.

Colonel Ledwaba added that the team conducted further investigation and ultimately the body of the deceased was found along the R524 Phunda Maria road next to Maniini village, already in an advanced state of decomposition.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned this incident of Gender Based Violence and has commended the members for sterling investigations that led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the body of the deceased.

The motive of the murder is unknown at this stage and police investigations are currently ongoing. The suspect is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate court soon.
