Two suspects, Charles Mbungeni Mabuza(35) and Harward Malume Mashego(38) appeared before the White River Magistrate Court facing charges of murder of a Traffic Officer, the late Judas Chiloane(60).
The pair was arrested during an intelligence-driven tracing operation conducted by the Nelspruit-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Intelligence and Tactical Response Team on Monday, 13 March 2023 at Shabalala Trust Hazyview under Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
Mpumalanga Hawks Spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said the arrest followed rigorous tracing of the suspects after the gruesome slaying of Chiloane on Saturday, 11 March 2023 between Hazyview and Graskop.
“It is alleged that the deceased was with his lady friend parked when armed intruders emerged from the bushes. They took the victim’s firearm and fatally shot him. Chiloane sustained multiple injuries and the suspects fled the scene. The female called for help and the police arrived, the victim was declared dead at the scene”.
Captain Sekgotodi said the police in Mpumalanga diligently pursued all information received from the public which resulted in the duo being detained for questioning. “Further investigation led the team to one of the suspects’ house where a search was conducted. A pistol with serial number obliterated was found and seized for further investigation”.
The case is postponed to 22 March 2023 and the accused remain in custody. Police Investigation continues.
