A man arrested with rhino horns

A 27-year-old man, Ntsako Prince Letswele appeared in the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court on Friday 10 March 2023. He was arrested in Piet Retief arrested in possession of two rhino horns on Thursday, 09 March 2023. Letswele’s arrest came as a result of members of the public who brought information about his alleged dodgy dealings to the police.

Mpumalanga Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said according to the information, a white Nissan Qashqai was travelling on the R534 (Wakkerstroom Road) and it was being driven by a certain man. “Further details outlined that the vehicle was having Gauteng registration number plates and that the car was transporting some rhino horns”.

Mohlala said the vehicle was spotted as it approached Piet Retief CBD where it was brought to a halt.” A search was then conducted and upon searching the vehicle, members discovered the two rhino horns hidden inside the bonnet of the car but wrapped with some black plastics”.

The matter is postponed to 14 March 2023 to enable the suspect to obtain a legal representative.

Meanwhile, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has expressed his gratitude and appreciation for how community members support the police with information regarding crime.
