The Free State Emergency Services crews responded to an accident outside Winburg on the N1 earlier this morning and on arrival, they found a light motor vehicle that collided with 2 cows and 3 occupants were trapped inside it.
The jaws of life were used to free the occupants and unfortunately, MEC for Education Tate Makgoe and a male Protector were declared dead on the scene.
One male driver of the vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Winburg Hospital, for stabilization.
Meanwhile, Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga said she is shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden passing of MEC Makgoe.
