A formal date hearing for the four Boksburg North Police officers accused of the assault and torture of a foreign national is set for Tuesday, 7 February 2023. It is alleged that they assaulted him on 9 January 2023. They made their first court appearance on 3 February 2023.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Spokesperson Lizzy Suping said their charges have also been reviewed and changed from Assault GBH and defeating the ends of justice to Kidnapping and Attempted Murder.
The four, a Sergeant and 3 constables are still detained at the Boksburg Holding Cells.
