The Christiana Magistrates’ Court has postponed the case against Kgothatso Masike(21), Clifford Mokoena (31), Vuyani Mbulawa (41) and Brenda Booysen (38) to 23 February 2023, for further investigations. The four were charged with public violence and granted R500 bail each.
North West Spokesperson for National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Henry Mamothame said the Police reports reveal that on 27 December 2022, a group of community members from Christiana, blocked the Christiana Jan Kempdorp road with stones and burning tyres, in what was alleged to be a service delivery protest. “They subsequently moved to the N12 road and blocked it with stones and burning tyres”.
Mamothame added that the investigations into the matter led to the arrest of the four accused on 29 December 2022. They are expected back in court when the matter resumes in court late February.
