Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says it is investigating the death of a suspect allegedly wanted for house robbery and motor vehicle theft in the Western Cape.
Members of the Western Cape Flying Squad responded to a house robbery and the theft of a motor vehicle on 25 December 2022, at about 11:00. The suspected car was found in the Hanover Park area.
IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping said it is alleged that as the police officers approached the car, the passenger pointed a gun at the Flying Squad Member who fired a shot hitting the suspect on the chest. “The suspect later died in hospital as a result of the gunshot wound”.
