Members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) from JC Bez region will be picketing outside the offices of Eskom Megawatt park in Johannesburg. This is over the unfair dismissal of approximately 300 workers who suddenly found themselves unemployed because of the termination of the contract.
NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola said some are cleaners, whilst others are gardeners who were supposed to be absorbed into the new contract, in line with section 197 of the Labour Relations Act dealing with a business transfer. “But this has not happened, and Eskom is refusing to take responsibility for the problem. Our members will also be handing over a memorandum of demands to Eskom management”.
