Two foreign nationals appeared in court for corruption

Two foreign nationals who are brothers appeared before the Middelburg Magistrate Court on Monday, 28 November 2022 for corruption. It is alleged that on 24 November 2022, a shop owner and his brother approached an inspector from the Department of Labour and Employment to ask him not to issue a compliance order against the shop owner.

On 26 November 2022, the brothers transferred R4500-00 into the bank account of the inspector. Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Captain Deineo Sekgotodi said the inspector notified the police about the incident and the two brothers were arrested on  Saturday, 26 November 2022 by the Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Corruption Investigation and charged with corruption hence their appearance in court today.

The matter against one brother was withdrawn and the case against Israfel Bhuiyan(37) is postponed to 6 December 2022 for verification of the passport.  The accused is remanded in custody and the investigation continues.
