The former Municipal Manager of Dr JS Moroko Municipality, Nelson Thammy Khubheka( 50) appeared before Siyabuswa Magistrate court after he was arrested by the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for Fraud, Theft and Contravention of ( National Treasury ) MFMA.
Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Dineo Sekgotodi said it is alleged that in 2019 the accused unlawfully and intentionally approved the appointment of service providers whilst the Bid Adjudication Committee declared the appointment irregular as it did not comply with Supply Chain Management policy and the Constitution.
“ It is alleged that when appointments were approved, the accused referred to a non-existent meeting, and further utilized the security services of the Municipality for his benefit. The Municipality suffered an actual loss of R 4.3 Million”.
Khubeka was released on R10 000.00 bail and the case is postponed to 6 February 2023.
