A learner stabbed to death in an alleged gang-related feud

The Free State Department of Education condemned the incident that occurred on Tuesday, 22 November 2022, in Bloemfontein, Rocklands where a Grade 11 boy learner was stabbed to death in what is believed to be gang-related feuds.

Free State Education Spokesperson Howard Ndaba said a bitter and violent brawl reportedly broke out between a group of skirmishing boys on Tuesday afternoon, leading to the brutal stabbing and untimely death of the 20-year- old learner. “He was rushed to a nearby clinic. Unfortunately, the learner succumbed to his injuries as he was receiving medical attention”.

Ndaba said they are calling on the community to not disrupt schooling and teaching as Grade 12 learners are still  writing their final exams. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Meanwhile, the psychosocial team will visit the school to provide necessary support and counselling.
