The Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 10 October 2022 released Stephen Ramusi (52) on R4000 bail for allegations of fraud and theft. This is after Ramusi’s arrest by Mthatha based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks on the very same day.
It is alleged that during the month of August 2021, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Forensic Investigations received allegations of an unauthorised accommodation against the Area Manager of Bizana Magistrate’s court.
Eastern Cape Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said it is further alleged that Ramusi has been staying in hotels since his appointment as an area manager in Bizana cluster in 2018 up to the 31st of August 2021 and is reported to have been staying in those hotels without the knowledge or approval by his supervisors.
“It is further alleged that Ramusi was submitting fraudulent trip authorities to the travelling agent purporting to be signed by authorised officials which they were not. Ramusi is alleged to have compelled his subordinates to authorise trips and accommodation for him which is against the departmental policies and prescripts”.
Mgolodela said through scrutinising the claim documents, it transpired that signatures authorising the trips were fraudulent. “A report based on the allegations was compiled and is said to have prejudiced the department cash to the value of more than R860 000”.
He was released on R4000 bail and the matter is remanded to 3 November 2022 for copies of the dockets.
