The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) confirmed that the former State President, Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, has been released from the system of Correctional Services. Mr Zuma’s 15 months sentence expired on Friday, 07 October 2022.

The department’s spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said the Constitutional Court sentenced Zuma to 15 months imprisonment in its judgement handed down on 29 June 2021.

“Mr Zuma was duly admitted at Estcourt Correctional Centre from 08 July 2021. He was subsequently placed on medical parole on 05 September 2021 due to the seriousness of his medical condition. At the time, he had served two months behind bars. Medical parole placement meant that Mr Zuma was to serve the remainder of his sentence under Kranskop Community Corrections”.

Singabakho added that essentially, Zuma complied with his conditions for medical parole as set out during his placement. “All administrative processes have now been concluded and the Sentence Expiry Date marks the end of him serving his sentence under community corrections”.
