The Police in Gauteng confirmed on Friday,23 September 2022 that two suspects that have been linked to the July 2022, Nomzamo shooting incident have been arrested. Fourteen people were killed during a shootout in a tavern in Soweto police on July 10, 2022.
On 22 September 2022, National Crime Intelligence officers arrested one suspect linked to the Nomzamo shooting incident, in Johannesburg.
Gauteng Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the suspect was handed over to Gauteng’s Murder and Robbery Investigating Team for further handling. He then led the team to one of his accomplices who was arrested in Northern Cape on 23 September 2022.
“The team proceeded to arrest two more suspects, linked to a murder case for an incident that occurred in Kliptown in October 2021 where a Lesotho musician was killed. He is also linked to another murder and attempted murder case that occurred in Orlando in May 2022”.
The fourth suspect was apprehended on a warrant of arrest for a double murder incident that occurred in Doornkop in 2021 where two Basotho nationals were killed.
The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended the team and National Crime Intelligence for the breakthrough in the case. Investigations are continuing and more arrests are expected. All four suspects will be appearing at the Orlando Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 26 September 2022.
