A family of a terminally ill woman receives help

A family of a terminally ill Limpopo woman Maggy Mkhondo, 49 from Praktiseer  Mountain square outside mine developing town of Burgersfort in Limpopo received a food hamper donation.

This is thanks to Praktiseer social workers and Fetakgomo Tubatse municipality for donating groceries to the family. The story about Mkhondo’s plight was highlighted on social media. Now the family is overwhelmed by joy and happiness from receiving food parcels. “I will eat healthy and continue with my medical care treatment”. She was sadly taking her medication treatment on an empty stomach that led to her being bedridden. She is a single unemployed mother of 5 kids.

Her 18-year-old daughter Sara, started to be a caregiver for her mother at the age of 14 when her mother became sick and was in and out of the hospital. Sara failed grade 8 four times not because of not attending school and losing focus in her studies, as a result of the stress and trauma she endured.

She is now doing grade 9 and takes care of her sick mother, her two siblings and younger sisters. The family is surviving on the child support social grant of their two children to buy food, groceries, clothes and water. The family uses firewood to cook and they don’t have portable running tap water and electricity.

A local ward committee leader of Fetakgomo Tubatse municipality Headman Mamogale promised the family it will be prioritized when get an RDP house are built.
