The KwaDukuza Regional Court on Monday, 29 August 2022, sentenced a rapist to 25 years on each count of rape. A stepfather made several court appearances before he was convicted.
In August 2021, a 15-year-old female was sleeping in her room when she was awakened by her stepfather who jumped into her bed. Terrified and traumatised by the stepfather’s behaviour, the young lady insisted that he leave her room. He overpowered and raped her while threatening her with violence. T
Colonel Nqibile Gwala of KwaZulu Natal said the accused continued raping the victim whenever her mother was not around. “Tired of suffering in silence, the victim informed her mother and the matter was reported to Ndwedwe police for investigation. The docket was transferred to the KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for further investigation.
Gwala said on 24 August 2021, the detective proceeded to the man’s home at Ndwedwe and arrested him on four counts rape.
