A 41-year-old tax consultancy firm bookkeeper will appear at the Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court for a bail hearing. This is after her arrest on 19 August 2022 by the Gqeberha-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team of the Hawks for numerous charges of fraud.

Eastern Cape Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said it is alleged that between 2017 and 2020, the accused who was employed as the bookkeeper at BVSA and DP Consultancy firms in Gqeberha, misappropriated funds from the two firms to the value of more than R1.7 million and R680 000 respectively.

“It is further alleged that she put her banking details for the South African Revenue Service’s payments and informed the firms that the banking details belonged to SARS”.

The clients on receiving numerous reminders of non-payment from SARS came forward with evidence of payment hence SARS lodged a complaint with the Hawks for investigation which led to the arrest of the accused.
