The Democratic Alliance will unveil and launch a new campaign tool against the failing Minister of Police, Bheki Cele. The party stressed that the pressure for Cele to be removed continues to be relentless, and until President Cyril Ramaphosa removes the failing Minister the DA will not let up.
The opposition party further said Minister Cele has presided over the gutting of SAPS capacity, an attempted insurrection, failing crime intelligence, a massive DNA backlog, sharp reduction in detective numbers, one-third of SAPS vehicles out of service, and over 9 000 fewer SAPS officers on the streets recently.
Just last month, a director of community safety at Action Society Ian Cameron laid four charges and complaints against Cele and the members of the South African Police Service who removed him from a community meeting held in Gugulethu.
Cameron said Minister Cele on Tuesday, 5 July 2022, shouted at him to shut up and sit down. “This is after the Minister failed to answer questions about his inability to fulfil his constitutional mandate to protect South Africans against crime”.
