The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the North West on Thursday condemned the gruesome murder of a 74-year-old pensioner whose body was discovered in Cyferskuil village in Moretele Local Municipality. The civic organisation called for no bail for the arrested two suspects.
SANCO Chairperson, Paul Sebegoe appealed for united action against the scourge of gender-based violence and for the protection of the elderly who are brutally murdered in the sanctuary of their homes.
“There is no place in our society for perpetrators of gender-based violence who commit such atrocious and heinous crimes against the elderly who are amongst the most vulnerable in our communities,” highlighted Sebegoe.
According to North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh, the pensioner was allegedly attacked in her home on Sunday,7 August 2022 by the pair after hosting a Stokvel and subsequently robbed.She was robbed, hit with a blunt object and thereafter raped. This led to the discovery of the deceased body on Tuesday, 9 August 2022 and the arrest of the two suspects.
