A group of seven men, appeared at the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court, facing multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and robbery with aggravating circumstances and the Contravention of the Immigration Act. The charges stem from the incident that happened on 28 July 2022, where eight women were allegedly gang-raped while filming a music video at a mine dump in Krugersdorp.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said the NPA established prospects of a successful prosecution, against 14 of the more than 80 men, that appeared in the above-mentioned court last week, on charges of contravening the Immigration Act. “Additional seven men will be added on 11 August 2022, to the case of the seven men that appeared in court on Wednesday.
The case is postponed to 28 September 2022, for further investigations.
