R107.5 Million Case postponed

The Randburg Magistrates’ Court postponed the R107.5 million Tegeta Exploration corruption matter to 13 July 2022 for obtaining a High court date.

The other accused in the matter is former DDG in the Department of Mineral Resources, Joel Raphela, former Tegeta Exploration and Resources Director Ronica Ragavan and a former trustee of Optimum Coal Mine, Pushpaveni Govender.

Investigating Directorate National Spokesperson Sindisiwe Seboka said all the accused are indicted on charges of fraud, forgery, uttering, perjury and money laundering in connection with the signing off and illegal utilisation of R107.5 million for mine rehabilitation funds for the Optimum Coal Mine Trust account and Koornfontein Mine Trust account in 2016.

“Raphela, as former DDG, stands accused of allegedly unlawfully authorising the funds to be released from the Koornfontein Mine Rehabilitation Trust.”

All the accused are out on R20 000 bai. Ravindra Nath is an accused indicted by the State and his whereabouts are currently unknown.
