The Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court released Bulelani Hanise (40) and Sondisa Dondolo (46) on warning.
The two police officials were arrested by the East London-based Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team on 10 June 2021 for allegations of theft. It is alleged that between September 2020 and July 2021, the two officials performing their duties as court orderlies were tasked with the collection of bail monies, traffic fines and admission of guilt fines from the Community Service Centre to deliver to Elliot Magistrates’ Court.
Eastern Cape Hawks Spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said these officers did not deliver the monies to the clerk of court to deposit. Instead, they allegedly used the money for their personal gain.
“A suspicion was raised when the accused after finalisation of the trial processes applied for the bail monies back to no avail. This matter raised suspicions and the matter was referred to the Hawks for investigation which culminated in the arrest of the duo”.
The matter is will be heard in court on 28 July 22 for legal representation.
