The North West Department of Education says it is currently facing a spate of deaths of officials. This follows after one educator from Rutanang Primary School in Geelhout Park, in Rustenburg was shot at the school gates.

North West Education Spokesperson Elias Malindis said last week, a deputy principal and the General assistant from Kutlwanong Special School for the Deaf near Phokeng, died separately from natural causes.

“A deputy principal of Tlhoafalo Secondary school in Sannieshof died of natural causes. The teacher of the same school died in a horrific car accident and on Tuesday, 07 June 2022 the department lost another Principal from Tlhabane Technical School”.

The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela said last week was the most difficult week as they witnessed many deaths including the road accidents that involved learners”. This is a threat of losing employees with a huge experience all at once”. MEC Matsemela is pleading with the public to pray against the spate of suicide that is affecting school learners across the province.
