A 29-year-old Security Officer will appear in Mecklenburg magistrate court on Monday, 23 May 2022. This is after he was arrested for allegedly murdering a 22-year-old woman, believed to be his girlfriend and attempting to murder her 03-year-old son in Driekop outside Burgersfort in March 2022.
Limpopo Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said on Saturday 26 March 2022, the body of a woman with multiple stab wounds was found in the bushes next to Mamphahlane village under Driekop policing precinct. “This after a badly injured and bleeding boy was met by the residents in the area and when asked what had happened, he then led them to the spot where his mother was lying. The Police were then called.”
Mojapelo said the Police opened a case of murder and attempted murder and a manhunt for the suspect immediately commenced. “Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect stabbed both the woman and her son. The three-year-old victim regained consciousness and was able to raise an alarm.”
The deceased has now been identified as Fezile Nqumalo from Kwazulu Natal. She was earlier reported missing by her family at Witbank police station in Mpumalanga Province.
Mojapelo added that a well-coordinated investigation conducted by the police in Witbank in collaboration with investigators from Driekop police station led to the arrest of the suspect.
