A 29-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court later this month for fraud. It is alleged that the suspect forged his matric certificate and changed the pass marks in order to gain admission to the university in 2010.

Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo of KwaZulu-Natal police said whilst the suspect was doing his fourth year at medical school, it was discovered that he used a fraudulent certificate.

“A case of fraud was reported at Umbilo police station for further investigation and he was arrested.” Mhlongo said the case was provisionally withdrawn and an investigation was taken over by the Hawks’ Durban Serious Commercial Crime Investigation hence he was summoned to appear before the court on 31 May 2022.
