Suspects remanded in custody for stealing railway lines

Five accused, Phillip Thyse (56), Kashveer Harrilil(27) Mahlomola Johannes Mphasha(45) Sipho Maseko(45) Mthabine Semid Tsotetsi(53) were remanded in custody by the  Morgenzon Magistrate Court on Tuesday ,3 May 2022 after they were arrested on Friday, 29 April 2022 following information about the suspects who were stealing railway lines at Morgenzon.

Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Dineo Sekgotodi said during the court proceeding information was received that some of the stolen railway lines were already delivered in Gauteng and the team quickly rushed to the identified place.  “On arrival at the premises, the team found the railway lines at the scrapyard and Transnet investigating officer identified them as the company`s properties.”

The case against the five accused is postponed to 10 May 2022 for further investigation and possible bail application.
