University of South Africa (Unisa) says following the disruption of the 2022 Autumn Graduation in Mid March and the related illegal strike among other things, five employees of the University who also hold leadership roles in the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union ( NEHAWU), have been placed on precautionary suspension with effect from 19 April 2022 in line with the relevant university policies.
Unisa said it has an obligation to uphold the law and ensure proper governance in its operations. “Furthermore, the creation of a conducive environment for learning, teaching research and engaged scholarship is central to the university’s mandate. Graduation ceremonies are sacrosanct academic activities of the university and must be safeguarded always”.
