The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has applauded members of the Border Policing for arresting a 27-year-old suspect believed to be illegally trafficking drugs (dagga).The police stopped him on Monday afternoon, 18 April 2022 at Jeppes Reef Border Post.
Mpumalanga Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said as part of the Easter Weekend Operations, at around 12h10 pm the police were busy with their routine duties including patrolling the border between South Africa and the kingdom of Eswatini, when they spotted a suspicious man who used illegal crossing near Jeppes Reef to enter into South Africa.
“He was reportedly stopped and after searching him, police noticed that he wrapped himself with dagga around his body weighing about 1.90 kg’s. The estimated street value of the dagga is at about R2 964.00.”
Mohlala said the suspect was arrested and charged for possession of dagga. He is expected to appear before the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 April 2022 facing the said charges.
