Four people were killed on Friday morning around 01h00 on N17 Road between Leandra and Kinross when two mini busses collided head on. The deceased include two females and two males all in their late thirties.
Spokesperson for Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety Moeti Mmusi said eleven people sustained serious injuries. “The minibus that was travelling from Kinross towards Leandra, had only one occupant, which was the male driver. All the deceased and nine of the seriously injured, were occupants in another minibus.”
Mmusi added that the minibus was travelling from Leandra and headed towards Kinross. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
“At this point, the cause of the collision remains unclear. However, an investigation is already underway.”
Mpumalanga MEC for Comunity Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, is again appealing for greater compliance with the rules and heightened vigilance by motorists in order to make this long weekend safer.
