Minister of Police Bheki Cele’s performance evaluation must be made public as he seems to only be destroying what little is left of the South African Police Services’ (SAPS). Bheki Cele’s performance is a disaster to say the least, he should just go on pension. This is the sentiment of Ian Cameron, director of community safety at Action Society.
Cameron said in 2019 Cyril Ramaphosa stated that all ministers would be managed with strict performance evaluation in order to make sure services improve and that ministers are held accountable. “Action Society is currently in the legal process of formally demanding the publication of Cele’s performance record.”
Cameron said the police have lost complete control of law and order in South Africa and only the ANC and its cancerous cadre deployment strategy is to blame. “More than 15 people have been gunned down in Manenberg and Khayelitsha in the Western Cape in less than 10 days”. He added that Cele must go and the entire SAPS management restructured after an in-depth skills audit.
“If we are to build a SAPS with the ability to effectively fight crime and protect South African citizens, we can’t have a 70-year-old ANC veteran as a leader.”Cameron further said they need a competent career official along with a qualified police management team to rectify the state of policing.
