An unknown suspect was killed during the alleged incident of house robbery which took place at Namakgale Zone C Section outside Phalaborwa on Friday18 March 2022.

A 44-year-old Police Sergeant was reportedly busy with laundry outside her house at about 19h10 when she was allegedly accosted by an unknown number of armed suspects who demanded money.

Limpopo Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the Sergeant tried to scream for help but the suspects managed to subdue her and pushed her, together with her children into the house. “The suspects demanded bank cards and pins. Some of the suspects allegedly took the policewoman’s private motor vehicle, a Toyota Corolla and drove to the local complex to withdraw money. The suspects also took the victims’ four cellphones. One suspect remained in the house, holding the victims at gunpoint.”

Mojapelo said the Police were called by community members who realized there was a robbery in progress. On arrival at the scene, the suspect who remained behind came out of the house, allegedly pointing what looked a firearm at the Police and was shot and injured. “Community members came in large numbers and allegedly started assisting the man but were stopped by the police who called the EMS. The man was certified dead at the scene.”

Mojapelo added that the other team of Police members went to the shopping complex, searching for the other suspects who allegedly went to withdraw money using the victim’s bank cards. “The Police arrived just on time and when the suspects noticed them, they then allegedly started shooting at them whilst fleeing. The Police gave chase and the suspects ultimately abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the bushes.” The hunt to arrest them continues.
