Drivers fined for driving unroadworthy vehicles

The Gauteng Traffic Police members attached to the Special Patrol Unit and Krugersdorp region arrested eighty-three (83) drivers for violation of road traffic rules and regulations during a law enforcement operation conducted at Malibongwe Drive, Kya Sands. The Gauteng Traffic Police issued fines to offenders and discontinued nineteen (19) unroadworthy vehicles in the process.

Gauteng Traffic Police Spokesperson Sello Maremane said in separate incidents, a total of 62 drunk drivers were arrested for driving under an influence of alcohol during drunk driving operations held on Saturday, 19 March 20222 along the M2 Freeway, Rabie Ridge, Pretoria Central at WF Nkomo street, Western corridor, along the R28 and R550 road to mention a few.

Many road deaths that the province continues to record is due to unroadworthy vehicles, unsafe overtaking, overspeeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and general disregard of the rules of the road or road traffic sign amongst others”.

All the offenders are expected to appear at various magistrate courts on Tuesday, 22 March 2022  for violation of traffic rules and regulations.
