An elderly man arrested for setting ANC offices on fire

A 60-year-old man was arrested at Masoyi for allegedly setting ANC offices alight on Thursday 17 March 2022. It is alleged that the suspect came to the offices of the ANC in the morning, alledging that his complaints were not attended to and he wanted to speak to the Liaison Officer.

Mpumalanga Spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said unfortunately the Liaison Officer was not available at that time. “Then he became furious and reportedly took out a 2-litre bottle filled with petrol from his bag. He then started to pour petrol over the employees that were present as well as over the offices and set them alight then walked away”.

Mohlala said the authorities were alerted about the incident and the fire was extinguished. Three offices were reportedly damaged by the fire however no one was injured in this particular incident.

The estimated damage is unknown at this stage meanwhile the suspect is due to appear in court soon.
