Two suspects aged between 35 and 53 were arrested by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team on Wednesday,16 March 2022 for corruption.
Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi of Mpumalanga Hawks said they received information about a home affairs official who reportedly colluded with a farm owner around Nelspruit to shield eleven Malawian illegal immigrants from being deported to their country.
“An intelligence-driven operation was conducted and the suspects were arrested immediately after the money had exchanged hands”.
The two suspects were charged and detained. They are expected to make their first court appearance in the Nelspruit Magistrate court on Thursday, 17 March 2022.
