The police arrested a 19-year-old male for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl on the 11th of March 2022 in the morning. It is alleged that the victim was left in the care of the mother of a suspect while her mother was in KwaZulu-Natal.
Captain Xoli Mbele of Johannesburg police said the suspect came to the room and locked it, put a cloth in her mouth so that she cannot scream and raped her. “After he finished, he forced her to take a bath and threatened her not to tell anyone. Victim phoned her mother and alerted her”.
Mbele added that on the 12th of March 2022, police were stopped by the mother of a child and alerted them about the whereabouts of a suspect. “He was assaulted by the community before the police came to his rescue. He was taken to hospital under police guard”.
Johannesburg Central Station Commander Brigadier Perumal condemned in the strongest possible terms assault on a suspect. He elaborated further that the community must refrain from taking law into their own hands because it is a crime
The suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court after he is discharged from the hospital.
