Father sentenced to life in prison for raping his step-daughters

The Mankweng Regional court today sentenced a 46-year-old man to life term imprisonment for raping and assaulting his minor stepdaughters aged 4 and 9. The accused was handed 9 life term imprisonment for rape and additional 19 years for assault.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the accused committed these horrendous acts at Thakgalang village in November 2016. “The incident was reported to the social worker who called the Police. The victim was admitted at Mankweng Hospital for medical treatment and later discharged after few days”.

Mojapelo added that the accused was traced and later arrested. “Upon further investigations, the police discovered that he also assaulted his 4-year-old stepdaughter who was found with burn marks. Subsequent investigations indicated that the accused had been sexually abusing a 09-year-old victim since January that year until his arrest”.

Sergeant Selolo attached to Provincial Family Violence and Protection Unit (FCS) ensured that the accused is held in Police custody until his sentencing as he was never granted bail.

Limpopo Acting Police Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers said this sentence is a clear message to everyone that violence against vulnerable citizens in the Province will not be tolerated and that the perpetrators will be permanently be removed from society.
