Zimbabwean national sentenced for attempted murder

The Boshfontein Regional Court found Tonderai Mushai (29) a Zimbabwean national, guilty for attempted murder. Mushai was sentenced to three years imprisonment or R10 000.00 fine of which one year is suspended. The accused was sent to serve two years in prison since he did not have money to pay.

Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi of Mpumalanga Hawks said the accused was arrested  on the 17 November 2021 whilst driving a truck with trailers on N4 road. He nearly ran over a traffic officer who was directing trucks at Komatipoort port of entry towards Mozambique. “After he was arrested and detained, another truck driver Patrick Ncube (21) approached the traffic officer and offered him  R10 000.00 bribe in order for the attempted murder case to be cancelled”.

Sekgotodi said Ncube was then arrested immediately after he handed over the money to the agent and detained. He made several court appearances where he was denied bail . The accused is still in custody and he will appear before the Boshfontein Regional Court on the 28 March 2022.
