A Chief Director of the Department of Health, Jabulani Rolland Nkosi (59) was arrested by the Mpumalanga Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation on Friday 25 February 2022 for contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.

It is alleged that during the Covid-19 outbreak, while the suspect was still an acting Head of the Department of Education, the Department procured Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) which were not classified under the Covid-19 circular.

Captain Dineo Sekgotodi of Mpumalanga Hawks said during investigation, it was established that the PPEs were irregularly purchased without following supply chain processes. “The arrest followed after the investigation was referred to the Hawks by the National Prosecuting Authority. The investigation linked the suspect with the case and a warrant of his arrest was issued and executed.”

Nkosi appeared before the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was released on R10 000 bail. The case is postponed to 20 April 2022 for a regional court date.
