Zimbabwean serial rapist sentenced to 192 years in prison

The Pretoria High Court sentenced a Zimbabwean national Wellington Kachidza (28), to 6 life terms and 192 years imprisonment. Kachidza was convicted after he pleaded guilty to 6 counts of murder, 3 counts of rape, 8 counts of kidnapping, 8 counts of extortion, 8 counts of robbery with aggravation circumstances and being in the country illegally.

National Prosecuting Authority( NPA) North Gauteng Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said all these crimes Kachidza is convicted of, took place in and around Pretoria between January 2018 to December 2019.

“He used the same method to lure male victims, pretending to ask for their assistance with driving, he would kidnap them and demand ransom money from their families. After they paid him, he would then kill them.  The reported course of death based on post-mortem for the victims was head injury or trauma to the head.” 

Mahanjama added that with the three female victims, Kachidza pretended to be offering employment opportunities.”He would lure them to a close-by bush or veld, rape them and rob them of their belongings and walk away.”

Kachidza was arrested on the 15 of January 2020 and was later linked by DNA evidence to the rape counts. He has been in custody since his arrest. NPA welcomed this sentence.
