A 45-year-old female will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on 22 February 2022 for pretending to be a police officer.She was arrested in corner Bree and Klein Street on the 20th of February 2022.
It is alleged that four bogus police stopped two females in corner Bree and Von Weiligh Street and showed them their fake appointment cards and demanded their passports. They failed to produce them and they demanded five hundred rands from each of them or face arrest. Victims only had one hundred rands and they told them that they are under arrest.
Captain Xoli Mbele said police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties received when they received a tip-off from a community member about bogus police robbing people. “They rushed to the scene and rescued the victims. Three bogus police ran away and one was arrested. She had a fake appointment certificate.”
Mbele added that an investigation is underway.
